Tuloy.

Learn Tagalog by watching Tagalog.

Pick a YouTube video in Tagalog and just watch. Tuloy writes the subtitles, counts every word you hear, and turns the words you keep hearing into flashcards on its own.

Made for absolute beginners. Videos someone has already prepared are always free to watch.

Tanong lang, ha.

magsabi

to say, to tell someone

Root word: sabi

“Do you know anyone who's in love but doesn't know how to say it?”

Added to your quick check

heard a few times introduced, in your deck you know it

You watch. The words come to you.

Tuloy follows the Refold approach: understand lots of real Tagalog first, study a little on the side. No grammar drills, no vocabulary lists to memorise up front.

  1. Watch real Tagalog

Native YouTube videos, not textbook audio. Tuloy writes its own Tagalog subtitles with speech-to-text, then an AI pass explains every word as it's used in that line. Tap any word for its meaning, any time.

  2. Words introduce themselves

Every word you hear is counted under its root, so nahulog, mahulog and hulog all count toward hulog. After about five hearings the word stops the video at the next pause: meaning, root and the line it came from. Then it's a flashcard. You don't click anything.

  3. A quick check, in your own words

Short spaced-repetition reviews (FSRS) bring each word back just before you'd forget it. You type what it means however you'd say it, and AI grades the meaning. No marking yourself right.

Pauses

  • Every line
  • New words (suggested)
  • Never

Tuloy suggests one from how much of the video you understand. Change it whenever.

Taglish is real Tagalog.

Filipinos mix in English all the time, and Tuloy counts it in your favour. English words are words you already know: they lift your score and never turn into flashcards.

Every video shows how much of it you'd recognise right now. Watch more, and that number climbs on every video at once.

Grabe, ang traffic kanina, late na ako sa meeting.

“Wow, the traffic earlier — I'm late for the meeting.”

Type along: any video becomes a typing game.

A line plays, the video waits, and you type what you heard. It's made for kids who won't sit through a long video but will happily race a sentence — and everyone's typing gets faster.

  • Works on any prepared video
  • Hear the line again whenever you need it
  • The words still count toward your exposure

Your turn — type what you heard

Ang bilis mo naman!

“You're so fast!”

Videos about what you actually like.

Describe what you're into and the AI search finds videos that are really in Tagalog — not just tagged that way — and tells you how well each one fits and how fast they talk. Videos other learners have already prepared show up first, ready to play.

Thumbs up, thumbs down, and why you stopped watching all shape what's recommended next. Set a daily minutes goal and keep a streak going.

Questions

I don't know any Tagalog. Is this too hard?

No — Tuloy is built for absolute beginners. Start with videos it rates as slow and easy, leave the pauses on, and tap any word you're curious about. Early on you'll mostly be getting used to the sound, and that counts.

What is “the Refold way”?

Refold is a language-learning method built on comprehensible input: listen to and watch a lot of the language at a level you can mostly follow, and use flashcards to speed that up rather than replace it. Tuloy handles the flashcards for you.

Can I use any YouTube video?

Yes. Add a link and Tuloy prepares it — subtitles plus the word pass — for 1 credit per minute of video. If the video is already in the library, it's free.

How good are the subtitles?

Tuloy doesn't rely on YouTube's captions; it transcribes the audio itself with Whisper speech-to-text. It's usually very close, but like any speech-to-text it can mishear a word, especially over loud music.

Do I have to make flashcards?

No. A word becomes a flashcard by itself once you've heard it about five times. English words never become flashcards.

Is it good for kids?

Type along was made with kids in mind: one line at a time, then they type it. A family organization lets everyone share videos and credits while keeping each child's progress separate.

Do credits expire? Can I get a refund?

Credits never expire. They aren't refundable except where the law requires it — see the terms.
